STUDENTS WHO RIDE THE BUS:
For your child’s safety, Colton School students should arrive at the bus stop no more than 5 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. Bus route times and locations can be found on the Colton School District website. Families will be notified of any changes to bus routes by the Colton School Office.
Please remember: riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right. Students are expected to follow all rules and behave appropriately to ensure the safety of everyone on board. Repeated misconduct or unsafe behavior may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of bus privileges.
BUS TRANSPORTATION EXPECTATIONS
Be Safe – Be Responsible – Be Respectful
Riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right. Just as classroom expectations are set by the teacher, bus rules and expectations are set and enforced at the discretion of the bus driver. All students are expected to follow these expectations to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone.
- Follow all directions from the bus driver at all times (NOTE: different buses may have different expectations).
- Remain seated in your assigned seat (as set by the bus driver).
- Do not tamper with emergency exits or equipment.
- Keep hands, feet, and body to yourself.
- Keep personal belongings put away and to yourself.
- No pushing, tripping, or fighting.
- No yelling, screaming, or disruptive behavior.
- Use respectful language and behavior; profane language, obscene gestures, and harassment are prohibited.
- No eating or drinking without permission from the bus driver.
- Tobacco, vaping devices, alcohol, or other controlled substances are strictly prohibited.
- No littering, spitting, or throwing objects.
- Students are responsible for their personal belongings.
- Acts of vandalism will result in the student/family reimbursing the school district for any damages caused.
Failure to follow bus expectations may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of bus privileges.
COLTON SCHOOL BUS DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES
In our efforts to provide safe and efficient bus transportation, please review the expected behaviors listed in this handbook. Each child should understand that riding the school bus is a privilege, contingent on appropriate, safe, and respectful behavior. Inappropriate behavior while riding the bus is a serious risk to the safe operation of a school bus, its passengers, and the driver. Because of the importance of maintaining a safe and orderly system of bus transportation, appropriate conduct is expected. Students who choose not to meet these expectations will receive a Bus Conduct Report and are subject to disciplinary action, up to, and including a denial of bus privileges.
Note: see Progressive Discipline as outlined in the Student Handbook.
BUS CONDUCT REPORT
• The bus driver will provide a Bus Conduct Report to the building principal when expected behaviors are not met.
• The building principal, upon receiving the Bus Conduct Report, will investigate the incident, conference with the student, and take disciplinary action according to the procedures outlined in the Student Handbook (see Progressive Discipline).
• The building principal will provide written documentation to the Transportation Director, the student’s Parent/Guardian, as well as maintain a copy for administrative records.
